We loved fungi first
Finally the world of fashion has stumbled on one of our great loves鈥攆ungi.
Lately, and other media have picked on the trend of fungi-inspired fashion and design. Since the global pandemic began, designers have been turning to the earthy aesthetics and healing powers of mushrooms and other kinds of fungi.
In particular, the underground part of mushrooms known as mycelium has captured the imagination of the design world. Mycelium鈥攁 network of tiny 鈥渢hreads鈥 that links plants together to share water and nutrients鈥攊s an irresistible metaphor for connection and harmony.
Designer Stella McCartney is making pants and other . Adidas recently unveiled the , partially made from a mycelium-based material that reportedly looks and feels like leather. And is collaborating with a biotechnology company called MycoWorks to create a bag using material made of custom-grown mycelium.

Senior graphic designer James Frost sketched this garden party-vibed headpiece, made of a Laccaria species in a summery shade of lilac. These fungi form a partnership with forest trees鈥攖hey help tree roots absorb water and nutrients; in return, the trees provide nutrients to the fungus.
The high-rise, swingy skirt has a retro boucl茅-ish feel. It鈥檚 made of shelf fungi, which you can find in the Garden鈥檚 McDonald Woods. Shelf fungi decompose and recycle organic matter for plants to use.

So we went out on a limb (we literally do this, sometimes) and came up with our own whimsical design.
